Man jailed for urging Blair and Brown assassinations

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/man-jailed-for-urging-blair-and-brown-assassinations-2009268.html
Summary

A man who was looking for help to plan a assassination on Tony Blair and Gordon Brown is jailed for five years. Ishaq Kanmi who is 24 years old wrote on a Jihad website that Blair and Brown where going to be assassinated if they did not listen to his demands. Kanmi said on the Jihad forum that he was the leader of al Qaida in Britain, after some investigation from the police they found out that he has no connection with al Qaida by any means. He pleaded guilty in an early state of the process.

My opinion

I think that the punishment he got was not the right one. I think if you threat to kill someone and also ask others to do this you should get a higher punishment. Besides only getting time in jail I also think he should get some mental help because he clearly is going to keep on going with these activities after he get out of jail.

MPs demand credit

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3017416/MPs-demand-credit-cards.html
Summary

MPs demanded yesterday that they be given a taxpayer-funded credit card. The mp moaned about the new expenses system that is being used these days. MPs used to get money directly from their commons bosses who paid their bills. Now they first have to pay everything themselves and they get a refund later. But the problem with this is that they say they have to wait for a very long time to get their money back. Lib Dem Bob Rusel said: "If we had a Commons credit card, the print-out would show what was spent. It would take the money out of the hands of MPs."

My opinion

I think this is just a very stupid problem that MPs should not worry about. The only problem they have now is that they have to wait for a while before they get their money back, I do not see the problem in this. There are a lot bigger problems in England where they should be talking about and trying to solve.

One in four kids are crime

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3018082/One-in-four-kids-are-crime-victims.html
Summary

Around twenty-five percent of all children aged ten to fifteen has been a victim of crime in the past year. Over two million crimes were committed against children under the age of 16 years old. A lot of these crimes took place in or around school. Police Minister Nick Herbert said: "These new figures reinforce our longstanding belief that, to date, crime measures have offered either a partial or confused picture about the level of offending. However you look at these statistics, they reveal what people know only too well - that crime affecting young people is a serious problem which must be tackled” they say they are going to do something about this but it would be hard because children are easier a victim of low level crimes.

My opinion

I think this is something that is going to be really difficult to do something about. Children will always be children they are bound to get into small fights at school all the time. They do not say that the things that are happing around the school are very big crimes. I think the best way to lower these numbers is to have more prevention at school about violence and keep a closer look at playgrounds.

No one will escape the cuts, warns Cameron

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article7145201.ece

summary:

David Cameron has announced one of the biggest cuts in government spending since world war II. He will take the whole country with him in a attempt to make up for the 156 billion deficit. While Cameron targeting welfare spending and the size of the State, Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister, has insisted that there would be no return to the “sink or swim” economics of the Thatcher era. From next April allot of people who make more than 150,000 pounds will have the tax relief on their pension contributions reduced significantly. Some people say this is a bad move because it will make it harder for the UK to attract "talent".

My opinion

I think that the changes that are being made in England are for the best, just as the rest of Europe England is in a financial crisis. Things are going to have to change to get England out of this very big dept that they have. David Cameron and Nick Clegg are making a big effort to get England out of the problems they have and they know they have to take a step back so they eventually can move forward.

Smoking kills? Yaay, that’s so cool, say teens (speaker's corner)

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/child_health/article7119928.ece

Summary:

Lisa is a 14 year old girl that smokes around 6 cigarettes a day. She smokes at home but also with her friends at school during lunch break. The teachers really do not care about this and she says that if they want to they can easily catch her and her friends. The anti smoking crusade that is going on in Britain does not seem to work. People cannot smoke in public places and the age that a person can buy cigarettes went from 16 to 18. Yet despite these steps and the millions spent on awareness that smoking kills the number of young people smoking has at best flattened out and at worst, in some areas, actually worsened.

Debate statement: The new laws and millions spend on smoking are a big wasted of time.

My opinion:

I do not think that the laws and the money are a waste of time. Although in some places it did not work I do think that the government has a obligation to protect their youth. All the kids that smoke these days know that it is bad for them. After the information the children get about smoking they can make their own choice if they are going to smoke or not. This way at least they will be informed before they make this decision.

Cameron and Clegg: who is more upper crust?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/ben_macintyre/article7129129.ece
Summary:

What is the difference between Clegg and Cameron, who is more upper crust ? Clegg and Cameron are both very posh but in a different way. Cameron would seem posher by the first look of it. He is a relative of William IV so is distantly related to the Queen. Clegg on the other hand has some blue blood to, his grandmother was a White Russian baronessand and his aunt worked for MI6.Clegg’s relatives on the other side were Dutch colonial entrepreneurs. The conclusion is that both man are very posh but in very different ways.

My opinion:

I think this article really shows the way English people still think. In England it still is very important were you from and who you know. In Holland know body cares where the prime minister is from and what his parents did. I think this way of thinking makes it harder for “regular” people to enter politics and make a name for them self’s.

Chained China tot at school

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2876280/Chained-China-tot-at-school.html

Summary

The little child that was chained to a lamp post had his first day of school. Lao Lu who became famous when his dad chained him to a lamp post so he would not get stolen went to school for the first time today. A generous local headmaster paid for his school after he saw a picture of the kid in the newspaper. He said the kid was fine he only needed a good scrub and some new clothes, the father of Lao Lu is so proud that his son can finally go to school.

Opinion

I think this is a beautiful story. It is good to see that there are still people in this world that care about less fortunate people. But I think it is really wrong that these kind of things are still happening in this world. This is probably not the only kid in China whose parents are too poor to pay for school. I think the government has to find a solution for this so these things do not happen any more.
